On Monday when I got out of bed I began feeling somewhat "wobbly". Dan suggested he get my cane (from when I had my knee surgery). I used it but I was still very unstable. Tuesday was more of the same, so Dan called Dr. Doran's office and got an appointment for Wednesday. Julie, the PA, watched me walk, spoke with Dr. Doran and he suggested a cat scan to see what was going on. Julie offered me a wheelchair, since the room I was in was the fartherest away. The doctors in the building have their own radiology dept. downstairs, so Dan pushed me to the elevator and we went downstairs to Radiology, waited a few minutes, had the cat scan, and went back upstairs to the patient room. I was thankful for the wheelchair and not having to rely on the cane. After a few minutes, Julie and Dr. Doran came in with the film. He said to look at the point of point of the implant site and at the very base was a little trickle of blood. He thinks this is what is causing my lack of balance and instability. He feels that once this blood dissipates, then my symptoms will disappear. Who knows how long that will take. In the meantime I struggled with getting in and out of bed, unsteadiness on my feet going around the bed to the bathroom, walking down the hall way to the kitchen and den
On Tuesday I got a call from Eric asking if he and Hannah could spend a couple of nights. He was moving out of his apartment on Sat. and for some reason wanted to get out of there.I guess his new apt. wasn't ready yet. Well not only was it him and Hannah, but Paige also! So now we have 3 extra people staying with us before my 2nd surgery on Friday.
Friday was the same procedure as the first one the previous week except that I had to be there at 5:30 instead of 6:00. Before going to the hospital Friday morning, I lost my balance and fell in the bedroom hurting my right hip and scraping my arm. It was so disconcerting to have that happen. This time after arriving in the procedure underground parking lot, Dan stopped at the door and brought out a wheelchair for me. After parking the car, we processed to registration, got checked in and then sat down and waited for a very long time. Finally they came for me to take me back to a prep room.
This was the same as before except the nurse trying to get a vein to take blood couldn't find one and ended up using a prick on my finger. It took forever to get enough into the little vial. then everything was pretty much the same except a different nurse came in to insert the IV. After getting the blood pressure cuff, oxygen on finger, puffers on my legs and warm blanket, it was time to ZIP down the hall again. This time there was no terrible anesthetic in my forehead and no frame. Once I got to the procedure room, I was put to sleep and then awakened and I was in the recovery room. A nurse said "Kathy wake up, you're in recovery room.
Then I thought perhaps I should look for a walker (many in our church have used one for one procedure or another). I lined one up, and my friend even brought it over to me! So Thursay I began feeling more confident.
